What a great packet trick! Seven cards are shown, six having a bust of Napoleon on both sides, and one with a bust of Napoleon on one side and a pearl on the other. The six Napoleon cards are placed in a row on the table; the pearl card exchanged for one of them with the pearl side downwards, and a spectator mixes them around. The magician then divines which of the bust cards has the pearl on the back. Then in accordance with the patter, five of the busts are turned over and the busts on the rear are all seen to have been smashed to pieces. The sixth card is turned over and there is a calling card for Sherlock Holmes the famed detective! The spectator is suspicious of the extra card, but it is turned over to reveal the words ‘Wrong Again Watson” Eventually the Pearl is rediscovered in the envelope that the cards were originally carried. Martin Lewis, one of the few magicians who are as skilled and professional on stage as they are close-up, is the creator of this surprising and magical routine. The patter for this trick has been written by noted Sherlockian, Dean Dickensheet.
