I believe that these were sold in the 1970’s by Austria’s Zauberklingl. Instructions in German and an English translation are supplied.
A fabric band is inserted into a small cabinet. Then a wooden plaque is pushed into the cabinet. The plaque penetrates the ribbon and when it is pulled out the fabric band runs thru the hole in the plaque. Band and Plaque can immediately be inspected.
A simple but convincing method make this a highly visual trick.
