The spectator is given a completely free choice to name any playing card they wish.
The magician then introduces a single envelope containing three printed photographs, each showing a wide spread of playing cards. Upon examination of the pictures, the spectator makes an impossible discovery:
- In every photo, all of the cards in the spread are shown face up… with the exception of their freely named card, which is the only card face down!
To drive the impossibility home, the performer can even point out that the other three “mates” (suits) of their chosen card are still clearly visible and face up in the photographic spread!
