I remember when these came out. A clever effect from David Taylor of New Zealand.
We are totally enthusiastic about this colorful and clever nick originated here at David Taylor Magic and a World exclusive.
It is a transposition effect – with a ‘twist’ and then a nice, unexpected climax. All in all, an impressive sequence of events.
Note: Colors of sticks vary from set to set.
In effect, three empty envelopes are shown. Also, three sticks, one RED, one BLUE and one BLACK.
These are proved solid and then dropped into one of the envelopes. ‘Ihe magician patters about how a ‘Mirage’ occurs and offers to demonstrate that this may only be a figment of the imagination. The RED stick is removed from the envelope and openly placed in one of the others. This may be sealed.
“Watch!” says the performer and snaps the envelope with his fingers for an extra flourish.
IMMEDIATELY the envelope is crushed into a ball and the solid stick has vanished. The envelope is thrown down. “It was all a mirage”, says the magician – “you only THOUGHT I placed the rod in the envelope!” The RED stick is shown to be back in the original envelope!
To demonstrate a “double Mirage” the other two sticks, blue and black, are openly removed together and placed in the second envelope which is also sealed and snapped with the fingers. This envelope is now CRUSHED UP into a ball and thrown down – both rods having vanished.
Reaching into the original envelope it is seen that the two sticks are still there – but now the colors have merged, and the magician removes ONE stick striped with blue and black lines! A nice twist!
The original envelope is sealed. “You may wonder how all this is possible” says the performer. In actual fact there was no mirage, and it’s all done with my Magic Wand!” So, saying, the envelope is ripped open and out drops a small magic wand! Envelope may be thrown to the audience.
‘There is no body work involved during the effect. The other feature to recommend this trick is that although ‘shells’ are used, there is NO prior preparation for these, no rolling of gummed paper etc.
