Two keys, one brass, one silver, are handed out for examination. The brass key is NOT CUT i.e. it has no notches cut along its length but is smooth and straight. The silver key is cut in the standard way.
The two keys are openly hung on a simple key ring and a spectator grasps both keys in his fist. The blank key can clearly be seen up until moments before he closes his hand around them. And yet…when he opens his fist he discovers the blank key HAS NOW CUT ITS OWN EDGE in his hand! Both keys and key ring are left with the spectator to examine again.
