Crafty Chinaman – Edwin’s Magic Arts

This effect combines a little novelty cartooning, then a torn and restored paper plus a surprise climax! You take up a black-painted clipboard, holding a 17.5″x8″ piece of bright yellow paper. Explaining your recent trip to China, you writes “CHINA” on the paper. Whilst there, you met a Chinese magician who did amazing magic. “Perhaps you’d like to see him,” you ponder aloud, and with a few strokes of the pen, you transform the word CHINA into a picture of the Chinese magician! You then perform a trick taught to you in China, tearing up the paper. A quick magic word, and the paper is restored… or is it? The paper is restored, but in the form of a picture frame. The Chinese magician has vanished! Picking up the clipboard you previously set down, you explain you’ll have to start over – but what a surprise when the restored cut-out Chinese magician is attached to it! Plenty of opportunity for comedy and audience interaction. This classic routine from Edwin’s Magic Arts includes all the apparatus necessary: black cardboard for the clipboard, Chinese magician cut-out, and several sheets of yellow paper.
