Many years ago Reinhard Mueller published a routine with three colored dice which jumped between several cups. It required quite some sleight of hand and was out of reach of most. Eckhard Böttcher has developed this into a multi phase routine using poker chips many years ago and eliminated the sleights. It is now offered in a quality design, precision made in Germany.
1st Phase: In front of the performer are three vertical rows of three chips. Each row contains one red, one yellow and one green chip. They are shown in passing from both sides of the audience. Furthermore, the performer shows a red, yellow and green “cup”. A red, yellow and green chip are placed in each cup which is then placed with the opening on the table. – Hey presto – the cups are lifted and the audience can see the chips under each cup. Under the red cup there are three red, 3 yellow under the yellow and 3 green three under the green cup.
2nd Phase: The chips are added back into the cups. Three red in the red cup, three yellow in yellow cup and three green chips in the green cup. – Presto – Suddenly each cup has again one of each color chips!
3rd Phase: A different colored chip is removed from each chip series. For example, a red from the first row, a yellow from the second row, and a green chip from the third row. These three chips are placed to the side. The remaining two different colored chips are placed into the cups and the cups are placed beside each other with the openings down. An audience member s now allowed to place one of the three remaining chips in front of each cup with the understanding that cup and visible chip can’t be the same color. The cups are lifted. Under the red cups are now two yellow chips, under the yellow cup two green and two red chips under the green cup (again the same color that the spectator selected by placing the extra chip!).
Phase 4: The performer places a single chip under each cup without letting the audience see his selection. Again a spectator can place one colored chip in front of the cups as long as the chip does not match the color of the cup. When the cups are lifted there is again a match!
Due to the clever props this routine can be performed entirely without any sleight of hand.
