Chessboard Chip (Echec et mat) – Germany

You hold a white chip only between the tips of thumb and index finger of your left hand. You rub it with the fingers of your right hand – and the chip is black. More rubbing – the chip is white again. The audience realizes immediately: The chip has just been turned over behind your hand. Oh dear, how stupid!
Now you have to agree: “You’re right, folks, the chip is neither black nor white, it’s really black and white. It’s the rubbing that does it.” You rub the chip once more – and the chip has a black-and-white chessboard pattern! And the same on the other side. And it is passed around for examination straight away. Everybody will be surprised.
